This is a picture of an American F-18F Super Hornet taken at the 2012 Royal International Air Tattoo at Fairford in the UK. The weekend was very damp meaning there was a lot of moisture in the air. Cloud was 7/8 and at about 3000ft. The displays all day had to be quite flat. This picture was taken as the jet flew a tight left turn right over my head. I am looking directly up at him and waited until he was in front of a small break in the cloud so that I had the blue background. The trails coming from the leading edge of the wings are made in the same way as clouds. They form because the pressure above the wing is so low when the plane is turning that the moisture in the air instantaneously condenses.
